Scorpio Spear arrived as UX-14 in April 2025, and its listing is a Balance type — a classification that surprises people who only ever see it in aggressive builds. The reason for the confusion is the gimmick: the blade carries a movable sub-layer that the bit’s rotation drives during an Xtreme Dash, collapsing a rounded six-contact profile into a three-contact attack shape mid-battle.
In practice that means Scorpio Spear opens like a deflection blade and finishes like a smash blade, which is why it shows up in offensive decks despite the Balance label. It is well regarded against stamina opponents, where the transformed shape gets clean burst and knockout angles late. The stock Zap bit is serviceable but rarely where players end up.
Swaps usually target height and bit. Taper builds on the 7-60 and 7-70 ratchets have been popular, and 5-60 with Elevate is another commonly cited direction. The stock 0-70 is unusual enough to be worth keeping intact for its own sake — 0 ratchets are not common, and the starter is the accessible source.
