Sphinx Cowl Blade

Sphinx Cowl is a round right-spin defense blade with a rugged edge made of nine small protrusions, which Takara Tomy calls Barrage Blades. They are spaced to line up with the nine teeth of the 9-80 ratchet it ships on, so blade and ratchet form one continuous ring of small bumps. The Gear Chip shows a sphinx in a nemes headdress. At about 33 grams it is on the light side, and the design aims to spread incoming hits across many small contacts rather than absorb them with mass.

Little hard data exists on it. It does not appear in BeyMeta’s recent WBO-based blade rankings, and no tournament write-ups featuring it turned up. That points to a casual or niche part rather than a competitive one. The claim that the repeated contacts spread force is design intent and has not been shown in testing. The stock build has an obvious problem: at 9-80 the combo sits tall, which invites hits from below and adds burst risk.

If you run it, start by lowering it. Keeping the nine-to-nine alignment on 9-60 instead of 9-80 is the logical first step. Stationary bits like Needle, Orb or the stock Gear Needle suit a defender. Players who want a reliable round defense blade usually move to Knight Shield or Hells Chain.
