Viper Tail arrived as the prize slot of BX-16 Random Booster ViperTail Select in October 2023, which meant getting the 5-80O configuration specifically was a coin flip against two other Viper Tail builds in the same box. Availability improved considerably once Hasbro folded it into a Western dual pack alongside Dran Sword under the reversed “Tail Viper” naming.
The stock build is officially a Stamina type and the Orb bit is the reason why — a ball tip with less floor contact than Ball, which buys both spin retention and resistance to being knocked out, and tends to settle the top in the middle of the stadium. Where the combo gets interesting is the tension between that passive bit and the blade bolted above it: Viper Tail’s contact points are sharply aggressive, so it hits hard when something comes to it, and plenty of players run the blade in genuine attack setups instead.
That same aggression is the honest weakness. Recoil from its own strikes destabilises it, so results swing — it can take games off strong combos without doing so reliably. Worth owning, not a competitive staple.
