Black Shell arrived as the top prize in BX-35 Random Booster Vol. 4 in July 2024, sharing a pull table with Black Shell 9-80B, Unicorn Sting 3-70D, Wizard Rod 1-60R, Phoenix Wing 5-80H and Viper Tail 5-70D. Only one of those six pulls gives you 4-60D, so most buyers who wanted this exact combination bought it secondhand rather than gambling. Hasbro’s version reached western shelves renamed Obsidian Shell.
The design is a Draciel callback — a diamond outline with eight downward-sloping protrusions — and that lineage is the fun part rather than the functional part. Its recurring complaint is mass: it is light for something sold as a defense blade, and light defense blades get pushed out of the ring. Because the eight protrusions are genuinely sharp in profile, players have had better luck treating it as a barrage-attack blade than as a wall.
Dot is the more quietly useful half of the set. Its stamina sits near Orb, and the small protrusions on the underside make it twitchy out of the package before wear smooths them out. Expect the bit to migrate into other builds long before the blade does.
