The hook on this starter is that two of its parts change shape. Eclipse seats in either Double Upper Mode or Double Smash Mode depending on how it is mounted — upper for lifting contact, smash for flatter and harder collisions — while the Dual Assist Blade keeps the stack symmetrical either way.
Trans Kick is the other half of the idea. A Kick derivative with a narrower tip, it twists and locks against the ratchet to switch between High and Low settings, so one bit covers both aggressive movement and staying planted. Paired with the shallow 5-70 ratchet, the intent is a balance type you configure per matchup instead of per build.
Whether the modes matter competitively is not settled. Mode-switching gimmicks in this generation have a habit of collapsing to one obviously superior setting once testing catches up, and there is no clear consensus yet on which way Eclipse falls. Reasonable to buy for Trans Kick and the customization surface; not reasonable to buy on a promised verdict.
