Needle Bit (N)

Needle was the first defense bit of the generation, arriving in the BX-04 Knight Shield Starter. Physically it is a conical plastic tip that narrows to a sharp point, and that geometry produces a docile, almost stationary spin — a Needle combo drops into the middle of the stadium and stays there. Because the behaviour is so predictable, you can launch it as hard as you like without worrying about the bey wandering into a wall, and a hard launch is exactly what Needle wants.

The problem is that sitting still in the centre cuts both ways. Needle dodges nothing, which makes it a clean target for an opponent riding the X-Line into an Xtreme Dash, and the minimal contact patch means very little friction to resist being shoved. Combos on it tilt and start wobbling relatively early, and once destabilised they are easy to knock out.

Early in the format it saw wide use, including on aggressive blades, but it has since been outclassed. Players who want the centre-hugging stamina game usually take Ball for the durability or High Needle for the extra height and spin time. Needle remains a fine starting point for learning stationary play, not a tournament answer.
