Phoenix Wing 9-60GF arrived as BX-23, first through a Toys R Us Japan pre-sale on 10 December 2023 and then at general retail on 27 December. It is one of the rare starters where every part is worth owning independently: the blade, the 9-60 ratchet and Gear Flat all found homes in competitive builds well beyond the stock configuration.
Weight is the story. At release Phoenix Wing was among the heaviest blades in the game, and that mass is what lets it survive exchanges most attackers lose. Takara Tomy later reinforced the mold, pushing average weight up slightly — worth knowing if you are buying secondhand, because the older and newer molds are not equivalent and the difference matters at the top level.
Gear Flat gives it aggression without the total stamina collapse that pure attack bits bring, which is why the stock combo stayed relevant unusually long. Metal Coat versions, including a black glitter BX-00 release, are the main collector variants.
