Dran Dagger came out of BX-20, the DranDagger Deck Set, on 2 November 2023 — a deck product rather than a plain starter, which is worth knowing if you are hunting one loose. Hasbro’s version is Dagger Dran 4-60R, bundled into the Xtreme Battle Set, so the Western route to this blade has always been the expensive one.
Against Dran Sword it reads as the calmer sibling. Reviewers consistently describe it as less aggressive but easier to control, with better stamina than an attack blade has any right to — Rush on 4-60 gives it a workable aggressive path without the all-or-nothing feel of Flat. For a while that made it a genuinely good pick-up for anyone building an attack deck.
Its competitive stock has since fallen, and for a specific reason: once Wizard Rod-era stamina arrived, Dran Dagger stopped generating enough recoil off contact to reliably knock those combos out. It hits, but not hard enough to convert. Players who keep using it tend to drop the ratchet height or move to a more committed attack bit.
